We Brits are odd—do we believe
The stuff that yobs and hoodies thieve
Is worth far less abroad than here?

We must—to let our coppers bleat:
‘We need a dozen on each street...
For honest folk, there’s naught to fear.’

Was privacy some worthless fad?
It won’t be long before they add:
‘And one in every house next year.

British apathy at the installation by the police and local authorities of CCTV cameras in public places nationwide is bewildering. The police love them of course, but our citizens have permitted the first steps on an insidious slope - one they may well come to bitterly regret.
