There are no ‘immigrant children’,
Cluttering up our shores;
There is only a tyke on a beat-up bike,
Who wants to play with yours.

There are no ‘urchin children’,
Scavenging on the street;
There is only a mite in endless flight,
And never enough to eat.

There are no ‘Oxfam children’,
The world is grown too small;
There is only the choice — a kindly voice,
Or the shaming of us all.

There are no ‘orphan children’,
Whatever we may believe;
There is only this — a hug and a kiss
For a child of Adam and Eve.
