While politicians strut and wave
       And talk to bore the dead;
While bossy bishops drone and rave —
       The baker bakes the bread.

When Caeser spouts the Roman Law,
       Who births the raw recruits?
When regiments march out to war —
       Who cobbles up their boots?

While dukes dispute diplomacy,
   Who guards the palace wall?
While clever-dicks write poetry —
   Men’s busy hands make all.
